Radiosurgery at Swedish Medical Center
Although its name suggests scalpels, operating rooms and recovery time, stereotactic radiosurgery involves no cutting and no hospital stay.
The Swedish Radiosurgery Center, formerly the Seattle CyberKnife Center, offers both CyberKnife and Gamma Knife radiosurgery in one location on the Swedish/Cherry Hill campus in Seattle. This means our radiosurgery experts are able to select the most appropriate treatment – the one that will provide you the best results.
What is stereotactic radiosurgery?
Stereotactic means to use imaging to precisely locate an object in the body, such as a tumor, and to create a three-dimensional (3-D) picture of it.
Radiosurgery is a type treatment that uses 3-D images to aim many beams of radiation at a diseased or damaged area in the body in order to destroy it.
Stereotactic radiosurgery treatment is very precise and avoids injury to surrounding, normal structures.
CyberKnife can be used to treat tumors in any part of the body. Gamma Knife is used to treat brain tumors, cancer that has metastacized to the brain, and a variety of neurological conditions, such as arteriovenous malformations, essential tremor and trigeminal neuralgia.
