We want you to have the childbirth experience you’ve envisioned for yourself. Just let us know what we can do to make it more enjoyable or personal — either in a formal birth plan or by sharing your preferences with your nurse. If you have a special request based on religious beliefs or cultural customs, we will try our best to accommodate you.

A full range of pain-relief options

We also have a range of anesthesia options available 24 hours a day. Because various pain-management options have their own unique benefits, side effects and risks, we recommend discussing pain-relief options with your doctor prior to coming to the hospital.

Special facilities for c-sections

Sometimes it is not possible to deliver a baby vaginally, and a surgical procedure called cesarean section is necessary to deliver the baby. At Swedish, cesarean sections are done in special operating rooms located on the childbirth unit, and your partner can be with you the entire time.

Recording the birth

Parents may wish to record the labor and childbirth experience on film, audio/video tape or via digital cameras. To ensure the safety of the parents and child, and to protect the privacy of the health-care staff, Swedish has a strict audio/video recording policy. Your nurse will have information about the conditions that must be met before recording occurs.
