Meet Our Team

About Our Program

Gastrointestinal (GI) tract or nutritional problems in children are typically much different then those found in adults. That is why Swedish Pediatric Specialty Care has a dedicated pediatric gastroenterology team that specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the GI system, liver, pancreas, and nutritional
or growth challenges in children from infancy through adolescence.  The Growth and Integrative Nutrition Services at Swedish (GAINS) is another great resource we offer.  This is a multidisciplinary program, which includes doctors, nurses, dietitians, behavioral specialists, and feeding therapists.

Conditions Treated

Diagnostics Services

Anorectal manometry: Used to measure how muscles and nerves work inside rectum to diagnose constipation or other bowel problems.

Lactose breath hydrogen analysis: To help us determine if your child is sensitive to milk products.

Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the upper and lower bowel: To find blockages or otherconditions that require treatment.

  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: A small flexible lighted tube is passed through your child's mouthinto the upper gastrointestinal tract to examine and photograph the bowel lining. Small samples of tissue are also taken and examined by our pathologist.
  • Colonoscopy: A small flexible tube with a light is passed into your child's bottom and through the large bowel to take pictures and small scrapings which are then examined by our pathologist.

pH probe monitoring for gastroesophageal reflux: This records the pH levels of the fluid in the esophages to determine how much acid is in the fluid.
