Talking to Your Doctor
There are three easy steps headache sufferers can take before they talk to their doctor:
- Make a specific appointment. The doctor will spend a full office visit to take your complete headache history, family history and review other co-existing health conditions.
- Compile a personal headache history. Complete a "headache calendar" that details your headache symptoms, headache frequency, associated disability and related lifestyle factor that can make headache worse; for example, certain foods, menstruation, travel and other factors that trigger your headaches.
- List medications or treatments. A complete understanding of current health conditions and medications will h help your doctor select the right treatment for you. A list of medications that have NOT been helpful also will help in this decision-making process.
