The Swedish Orthopedic Institute began as the first dedicated facility of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, located at Swedish/First Hill. Today, the institute has grown to include a network of more than 80 of the region’s the most experienced surgeons and physiatrists at four Swedish campuses.
Swedish orthopedic surgeons have helped develop state-of-the-art joint-replacement methods now being used worldwide, and were the first in the Puget Sound area to perform MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing treatment. The number of successful spine surgeries, joint replacement surgeries and other orthopedic procedures performed at the Swedish Orthopedic Institute makes it a national leader in the field.

December 17, 2010 Swedish, Seattle Anesthesia Outreach Team Up to Help Deliver Needed Medical Equipment to Hospital in Ethiopia
SEATTLE, Dec. 17, 2010 -- Seattle Anesthesia Outreach (SAO), a Seattle charity co-founded by Swedish-affiliated anesthesiologists Drs. Richard Solazzi and Mark Cullen, recently joined with the Boeing Humanitarian Delivery Flights program and Ethiopian Airlines to deliver much needed anesthesia equipment to Black Lion Hospital – Ethiopia’s largest hospital. The delivery took place Dec. 16 with the majority of medical supplies donated by Swedish.
