Registered Dietitians are food and nutrition experts who work in the treatment and prevention of disease. They help people better understand how their everyday dietary choices can have a profound impact on their lives and overall health.
Our experienced staff of Registered Dietitians provides individualized counseling to a wide variety of people, taking into account the many variables that make us all unique. Registered Dietitians use their nutrition knowledge to help their clients make beneficial lifestyle changes that enable them to achieve their dietary goals.
Registered Dietitians provide Medical Nutrition Therapy, which is an important piece of comprehensive health care. Medical Nutrition Therapy involves a review of current eating practices, planning and implementing a nutrition intervention based on evidence-based guidelines, and monitoring an individuals’ progress over subsequent visits. The initial appointment is typically 60 minutes long, and then follow-up visits are flexible based on the patient’s needs and overall goals.
The Registered Dietitians at the Swedish Nutrition Clinics provide individualized counseling for conditions including, but not limited to:
• Weight management
• Diabetes and management of other abnormal blood glucose diagnoses
• Heart disease (high cholesterol, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, etc.)
• Cancer
• Gastrointestinal disorders (gluten free diet, IBS, Crohn’s, colitis, etc.)
• Renal/kidney disease
• Life-cycle/maternal nutrition
• Vegetarian/vegan diets
• Pediatric nutrition counseling is available at the First Hill location
Swedish also offers specialized nutrition therapy services through the Swedish Diabetes Education Center.
Insurance Coverage
The Nutrition Clinics at Swedish bill insurance for the services provided. Insurance coverage varies significantly amongst the different plans. Please check with your insurance carrier to determine if they cover Medical Nutrition Therapy and any limitations to their coverage.
Some insurance plans require a referral and/or prior authorization in order for the appointment to be covered. Please check with your insurance company to find out their requirements for covering a nutritional counseling appointment. Also, please contact the Nutrition Clinic that you would like to visit to learn their specific requirements.
