Swedish is participating in a new research study to test a new medication for patients in the critical first few hours after having a stroke. This study is testing the effectiveness of desmoteplase – a substance found in vampire bats. Read more on page A4 of Physicians Practice.

Take a Life Check to see if you're doing everything to avoid stroke.
Signs of a stroke
F – Face:
Ask the patient to smile. Does one side droop?
A – Arms:
Does one arm fall down when the patient holds both arms up?
S – Speech:
Is the patient’s speech slurred or garbled?
T – Time:
If you suspect stroke, time is critical. Call 911 immediately.
