Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Minimally invasive spine surgery includes lumbar fusion surgery, microdiskectomy, and kyphoplasty. With the newly added state-of-the-art equipment at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute, we recently started to provide endoscopic spine surgery.
About the program
The spine surgeons at Swedish Neuroscience Institute not only provide minimally invasive spine surgery such as microdiskectomy, they are also experienced in performing complex and multi-level spinal fusion surgery using the minimally invasive approach. The Swedish Neuroscience Institute also has the latest equipment and technologies, such as endoscopy, O-arm navigation, and intra-operative nerve monitoring, to help the spine surgeons to perform minimally invasive spine surgery safely and efficiently.
About minimally invasive spine surgery
Minimally invasive techniques were long thought to be incompatible with spine surgery. However, recent development in surgical instruments and the innovations in technology have advanced the field of minimally invasive spine surgery. Now spine surgeons have the option to use minimally invasive spine surgery techniques to treat challenging spinal pathologies and improve the outcomes for their patients.
Minimally invasive techniques often (but not always) use tiny incisions. With smaller incisions, there is less trauma. This usually will lead to less blood loss, lower infection rate, minimal scarring and quicker recovery.
Although more and more minimally invasive spine surgery is being performed nowadays, it is not suitable for every case. Consult your spine surgeon and let him or her decide whether minimally invasive spine surgery is suitable for you and your spine problems.
