Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic medical procedure used to assess the digestive system by placing a tube into the body.

The instrument not only has a flexible tube that provides an image for visual inspection and photography, but may also enable taking biopsies and retrieval of foreign objects.

Several groups of physician specialists perform endoscopic procedures in the procedural suites at Swedish/Edmonds.

Some of the most common endoscopic procedures at Swedish/Edmonds include but are not limited to:

  • Procedures of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract
  • Procedures of the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract (colonoscopy)
  • ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)
