Dr. Gillette specializes in diseases and surgery of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye. He was born in Cortland, New York, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Following internship, Dr. Gillette served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Public Health Service from 1974 to 1976.

Dr. Gillette completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at New York University and
a fellowship in Ocular Immunology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gillette then moved to Seattle, Washington where he conducted research on the immunology of corneal transplantation, and joined Eye Associates Northwest in 1989.

Dr. Gillette has served as President of the Washington State Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Program Director of the Academy’s Annual Meeting, and as a Board Trustee. He has also served as President of the Medical Staff at Cabrini Hospital in 1990 and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Swedish Medical Center from 2005 to 2009.

Dr. Gillette specializes in corneal transplantation, DSAEK, complex cataract surgery, and ophthalmic consultation.

Dr. Gillette has worked with international efforts to reduce blindness in Turkey, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Borneo.

I believe that each patient is an individual with unique concerns and needs. I place special emphasis on educating each patient to the fullest extent possible, so they might effectively participate in their care - thus insuring the most favorable outcome possible.

Personal Interests

I am the father of two college age boys. My personal interests include fishing and antique tackle collecting.I spend a great deal of time in clinical research and as chairman of the Swedish department of Ophthalmology.
