About the Movement Disorders Program

At the Swedish Neuroscience Institute (SNI), the Movement Disorders program offers a comprehensive range of services for adults and children, from diagnostic testing and innovative medical and surgical treatments to dietary consultations, compensation techniques, rehabilitation and follow-up support.

The multidiscipline Movement Disorders team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists, psychiatrists and pain management specialists, as well as physical and speech therapists. Social workers are available to help patients navigate their treatment plans, and counselors to help with coping and financial issues. In this collaborative environment, all specialists focus on making the patient experience as integrated and compassionate as possible.

The program offers a broad scope of treatment options so patients’ care plans are fully personalized. Treatment options include: medications, injections (such as botulinum for blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, cervical or spinal dystonia or spasticity), gait and balance training, and rehabilitation and physical therapy. Neurosurgeons evaluate patients who have exhausted medical therapies for minimally invasive neurological restoration interventions, such as deep brain stimulation or stereotactic radiosurgery. These procedures can help restore function and quality of life.
