Podiatric Surgical Residency Program

The mission of the Swedish Podiatric Surgical Residency Program (formerly the Northwest Podiatric Surgical Residency Program, effective June 2008) is to develop highly skilled physicians who specialize in foot and ankle care and to promote educational excellence throughout the medical community.

The goal of the program is to provide a sound foundation of academic and clinical education for all podiatric residents matriculating at Swedish Medical Center. The program has been developed with special emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to lower extremity disorders.

Additionally, the program provides the medical community with exposure to new knowledge, skills and techniques that can optimize patient care. The program serves as an educational resource not only to residents in training, but also to physicians, allied health professionals and ancillary medical personnel.

The SPSRP (formerly NWPSRP) has advanced into a new dimension of education and research, and is supported by a multi-specialty hospital that has a long, outstanding history of educating and training residents.

The three-year surgical residency program offers extensive instruction in various medical specialties, and the development of outstanding skills in the surgical and conservative management of foot and ankle pathology. Residents also attend weekly grand rounds, monthly journal club, local seminars and national conferences to enhance their education.

Every year, two residents are selected to participate in the three-year podiatric residency program. The program is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery 36 Months (PM & S-36) Program.
