Geriatrics
The Geriatric Fellowship Program operates under the direction of Dr. Carroll Haymon on the First Hill Campus of Swedish Medical Center
Offered in affiliation with the Swedish Family Medicine Residency/ First Hill, the Advanced Training in Geriatrics Program is a twelve-month residency program that prepares Family Medicine physicians to be leaders in the practice of comprehensive, compassionate, cost-effective geriatric care.
Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the ABFP-ABIM Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics examination.
This program highlights clinical, leadership and academic skills to prepare graduates to be teachers of geriatrics in academic and community settings. Geriatric medicine residents receive clinical training in the continuum of care for elderly patients through experiences in ambulatory clinics, tertiary care centers, rehabilitation and gero-psychiatry centers, long term care facilities, home care, hospice and community settings.
Leadership training includes participation in the University of Washington Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship, consultative services, professional presentations and teaching geriatrics to Family Medicine residents and medical students. Acceptance into the Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of Washington is based on a highly competitive application process.
