More than 135 Swedish-Affiliated Physicians Recognized by Peers as 'Top Doctors' in Seattle Metropolitan magazine

SEATTLE, Aug. 7, 2009 -- Dozens of Swedish-affiliated physicians were recognized by their peers as 'Top Doctors' as part of Seattle Metropolitan magazine's annual survey, the results of which were published in the August issue.

Nearly 1,200 physicians, nurses and physician assistants in King, Kitsap and Snohomish counties nominated colleagues they would choose to treat themselves and their loved ones. The 347 doctors who received the most votes were listed alphabetically and constitute 80 distinct specialties. As of press time, all the doctors on Seattle Metropolitan's list had current credentials filed with the Washington State Department of Health (www.doh.wa.gov; Click on 'Provider credential search').

According to magazine staff involved with the survey, private practitioners -- due to small staffs and the fact that they often encounter fewer colleagues on a day-to-day basis -- are never adequately represented on lists like these. As a result, doctors based in or near large hospitals tend to receive more votes. Magazine staff wrote, "Though we've given close attention to creating a comprehensive and detailed list, this reference is best used as a first step in the careful journey toward finding doctors who are right for you."

This year's survey results honored 347 practitioners in 80 specialties. Of those, 137 are affiliated with Swedish. They include:

In addition to the results of their annual 'Top Doctors' survey, the August issue of Seattle Metropolitan magazine also features a five-page article titled 'The Doctor Is In a Fix' about Swedish-affiliated family medicine physician Martin Cahn, M.D. The magazine describes it as, "the story of a doctor who went into general practice to help people and now just wishes someone would do the same for the health-care system."
