Janice Newell
Chief Information Officer
Newell has extensive strategic information technology (IT) experience and a strong business background, which allows her to look at information technology with a business point of view. She has been at Swedish since January 2006.
Newell came to Swedish after a 19-year career at Group Health Cooperative. There, she served in a number of roles including a seven-year stint as CIO where she led the IT division of that $2.5 billion integrated health-care system.
As CIO, Newell is focusing on the development of a multi-year plan for the future of information technology at the medical center, including modernizing Swedish’s IT infrastructure and ensuring the hospital makes the appropriate and necessary IT investments over the next several years. Newell also oversaw the move of Swedish’s data center to help ensure stability of the medical center’s IT systems, and she is playing an instrumental leadership role in an Epic implementation, which she helped successfully implement at Group Health.
Newell holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and an MBA from Boston University. Among her other accomplishments, she was recognized by CIO magazine as one of the top 100 information technology executives in 2004.
