Student Opportunities

Student Opportunities

While Swedish does not have a formal, paid-internship program, internships are available at times within particular programs or departments. Please consult the job listings in your area of interest to determine if any internship opportunities are available.

Another good way to learn about health-care careers is to take advantage of volunteering opportunities at Swedish.

Swedish does offer professional training opportunities for students in some health-care areas. These include:

Nursing

Swedish offers a variety of employment opportunities for student nurses. These can range from unit secretaries to certified nursing assistants to patient helpers. Please view current job openings to best match your skills and experience to currently available positions.

Swedish also offers employment opportunities as a nursing technician for student nurses. The qualifications for a nursing technician position have been developed by the Washington State Nursing Commission and include:

  • Satisfactory completion of all but the last year (either three quarters or two semesters) of a Washington State Nursing Commission-approved nursing program
  • Completion of a clinical component during the academic term

Nursing technicians are hired into any nursing department that currently has vacancies. There are usually vacancies at all of our Swedish campuses, most often in the medical/surgical, pediatric and women’s health areas.

Swedish generally hires nursing technicians once each year, and our annual two-week orientation program is usually held in June. Positions will be posted on our Web site in early spring. Please apply for these positions through our online application process. We strongly encourage you to attach an updated resume in Word format to your electronic application.

Medical Technical Fields

Students in some medical technical fields have an opportunity to complete their internships at Swedish and successfully transition from student to professional staff. Opportunities at Swedish include:

  • A comprehensive internship and residency program for pharmacy students
  • A variety of student scholarship programs in medical imaging
