Meet Swedish Employees

Meet some of our Swedish employees and hear what they have to say about working at Swedish.

Randy Busby

Randy Busby

Surgical Facilitator
Swedish/First Hill

Randy Busby received his surgery tech training while in the Air Force in California. But he knew that, once his military tour was over, he wanted to work in the area where he was born and raised. “Swedish is a great place — a very dynamic and diverse place to work.”

Since 1988, Randy has worked as a surgical facilitator at Swedish. In that time, he’s developed a lot of close relationships with his co-workers — and witnessed a lot of technological changes. “The technology advances are just amazing. I think I scrubbed the first laparoscopic gallbladder surgery we did here years ago —  when we all thought that was an amazing procedure. Now we’re building operating rooms dedicated to minimally invasive procedures that will have video monitors mounted on the ceiling. I’m excited to play a part in the setup of those rooms!”

Randy is also excited about the opportunity Swedish offers for continuing education. “If it’s job-related and you keep your grades up, they’ll pay almost all of your tuition. That’s something I’m definitely going to look into in the future.”

Deanzalo Thomas

Deanzalo ThomasLead Environmental Services Project Technician
Swedish/Cherry Hill

Originally from St. Louis, Mo., Deanzalo Thomas relocated to the Northwest to give his kids a better life. He found the opportunity to do that through Swedish. “The Northwest is a nice place, and Swedish is a nice outfit to work for. I feel like I’m really appreciated.”

Deanzalo started his tenure at Swedish in 1992, working in Environmental Services. Today he’s a lead environmental services project technician and enjoys everything about the job. “You’re never in one spot. There’s a lot of teamwork. And it’s a good atmosphere. Everyone’s pretty happy and cheery.”

One of the things that makes Deanzalo particularly happy about working at Swedish is the benefit package he receives. “I like all the benefits. I never used to have medical; now I do. Also, I commute from Bremerton, and Swedish pays for my bus pass and ferry pass.”

Celeste Brathwaite

Clinical Care Assistant
Swedish/Cherry Hill Campus

In 1993, Celeste Brathwaite was living in Des Moines and ready for a career change. That's when she filled out an application for a nursing assistant position at Swedish/Cherry Hill Campus.  "It was just a blessing that they called for an interview and I got hired."

As a nursing assistant on an oncology floor, Celeste's days are filled with many hours on her feet, providing patient care. But while the work can be physically exhausting, it can also be uplifting.  "Life can be very challenging when you work in a hospital. It can be very stressful. But I've been blessed over the years to come across some very nice people. I truly love some of the people I work with. They make my day. I've also had patients thank me for my help. That makes me feel good."
