Since its inception in 1910 as a 24-bed hospital, Swedish Medical Center has grown into a 1,245-bed medical center comprised of three hospital campuses in Seattle — First Hill, Cherry Hill and Ballard — a hospital in Edmonds, three freestanding emergency room and specialty centers in Issaquah, Mill Creek and Redmond.
In addition to providing general medical and surgical care, Swedish is a regional referral center for treatment in the areas of oncology, cardiac care, high-risk obstetrics, neurosciences, orthopedic surgery and organ transplant. Swedish also has an impressive array of specialty programs that includes sleep medicine, addiction recovery, pediatric services, pain management and home-care services.
Swedish boasts more than 7,000 employees and a medical staff of more than 2,000 private-practice physicians, representing virtually every medical, surgical and diagnostic specialty and subspecialty.
Founded as a not-for-profit institution, Swedish continually reinvests in facilities and new equipment to provide our patients with the highest quality of care in state-of-the-art facilities.
The best place to work
Swedish is not only committed to being the best place to receive care, but also the best place to work. We value and reward our employees with:
Generous compensation and benefits
Swedish employees are among the highest-paid health-care workers in the Seattle area. And they enjoy a wide range of benefits that are effective immediately upon employment, including relocation expenses (if eligible), a choice of health-care insurance benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan, a variety of paid commuting plans and the possibility of flexible work hours and shifts.
Individualized orientation
Swedish provides an orientation that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and his or her department or unit. Nurses receive a flexible orientation that combines theory and clinical experience under the guidance of a preceptor.
Continuing education
Swedish provides educational incentives that include continuing education allowances, tuition reimbursement and ongoing in-service training. Nurses can start their careers at Swedish while they are students. Advanced training opportunities in nursing include consortium training for the operating room, intensive care, telemetry and women’s health.
Supportive work environment
In the clinical areas, Swedish provides the necessary resources to allow for a manageable patient-to-nurse ratio. As part of Swedish’s commitment to provide a supportive environment, nurse managers participate in the delivery of patient care. Departments that support patient-care services include pathology, medical imaging, laboratory medicine, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and pulmonary therapy.
