There’s No Reason to Get (H)angry

Han•gry [ háng gree ]

  1. feeling very annoyed because you are hungry
  2. a combination of hungry and angry

We’ve all experienced it: the short temper that comes from being hungry, better known as being “hangry.” Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life, eating can become a secondary priority. Unfortunately our brains and bodies aren’t meant to function without food and so we get hangry. Low blood sugar and a grumbling tummy can turn us into less than pleasant parents, partners and coworkers. So in spite of all the messages out there saying eat less, hear this message instead: Eat sensibly when you’re hungry. Here’s why (and how)...

Hitting the Sack Lunch Running

There are two truths most of us have to live with on a daily basis:

  1. We have to eat to survive
  2. Life is busy

These two truths together often mean that we grab for processed foods (chips, cookies, crackers) when we feel hungry. Other times, it’s just easier to order take-out or fast-food in between meetings, classes or appointments. Of course, these foods often have less nutritional value and more calories. With the New Year underway and many of us aiming to shed pounds or improve our nutrition, why not make a resolution to pack your lunch at least 3 to 5 times per week?

Packing your own lunch has many benefits including...

These Boots Were Made for Walking - and so are you

The days are getting shorter, the jackets are coming out and a rainbow of leaves covers the ground. It is fall and even though it might be a bit rainier, it is still gorgeous here in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, as the temperature drops, for many of us, so does our motivation to exercise. The higher the walk score, the easier and safer it is to get places on foot. The easier and safer it is to get places, the more people walk! The more people walk, the healthier they are.

In fact, people who live in areas with higher walk scores ...

Back East ...in Issaquah

I've been spending my time on the East side opening the crowing jewel of Swedish Nutrition Services, Cafe 1910 at Swedish Issaquah.

Unfortunately I have 20 new pounds to show for it!

The Journey

When it seems like it would just be easier to pack it in, remind yourself that your perfect weight is not a destination...it's a journey.

Time's Up

With Swedish Issaquah about to open and new responsibilities at all 5 of our campuses I've been pretty busy so shooting video for the blog has been a challenge to get done. I really want to keep everyone updated so we'll forgo the video for this post.

Same Old...Same Old

I can’t belive a month has gone by since my last post. Time flies when you are not paying attention and losing focus can derail your progress. Time to dig in the heels, I’ve got a two month clock that just started counting down, I’m going to a professional conference in June and I want to show off the new me!
