SEATTLE, Sept. 19, 2005 -- As part of its year-long "Cancer Free Washington" public-service campaign, KING 5 Television (NBC) aired an hour-long HealthLink special titled "Prostate Cancer: Saving the Men We Love." Hosted by KING TV evening news anchor Jean Enersen, it covered an array of important topics related to this serious -- yet treatable -- disease.
Topics included:
- Swedish Cancer Institute(SCI)-affiliated prostate-cancer specialist, Dr. Peter Grimm, discussing brachytherapy. One of Dr.Grimm's better known patients -- world-class mountaineer and guide Lou Whitaker -- also talked about his experience with prostate cancer and his decision to have brachytherapy treatment.
- SCI-affiliated prostate-cancer specialist Dr. Thomas Green, discussing cryotherapy. One of Dr. Green's cryotherapy patients also talked about his experience with that treatment option.
- A look inside the SCI's unique Man-to-Man Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group as well as an interview with the group's coordinator, Leo Ward, who is a survivor himself.
