Hundreds of Swedish-Affiliated Providers Recognized as Part of Seattle and Seattle Met Magazines' Annual Top Doctors Surveys

SEATTLE, Sept. 11, 2012 - As they do each year, Seattle magazine and Seattle Met magazines published the results of their annual Top Doctors surveys in their July and August 2012 issues, respectively. To recognize the more than 300 Swedish-affiliated providers who were nominated by their peers for each survey, here is information about both efforts.

Seattle magazine

Seattle magazine asked thousands of local doctors this question: “To whom would you send a loved one for medical care?” They answered in record numbers, totaling nearly 18,000 nominations. The doctors on this list, which was published in the July 2012 issue, were selected by their peers as among the very best in their fields; whether practicing in oncology, pediatrics or dozens of other board-certified specialties. According to the magazine, "These are the doctors other doctors turn to when they or their families need care."

Seattle magazine’s Top Doctors list was created in collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.,

According to Seattle magazine, “While our list is comprehensive, it is not exhaustive. Castle Connolly only includes physicians in specialties certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Additionally, this list is limited to those practitioners whom patients can generally select; emergency room and anesthesiology specialists are not included. In fact, many well-qualified providers are not included, but we are confident that those listed are among the best in their areas of specialty.”

Seattle Met magazine

More than 4,500 doctors in the Seattle metropolitan area participated in Seattle Met’s 2012 Top Doctors rankings survey, which was the result of a partnership between the monthly magazine and Avvo. Avvo rates and profiles 90 percent of doctors in the United States, including every doctor in Washington state.

According to Seattle Met, the 2012 survey was more comprehensive than ever, with active participation from almost 40 percent of doctors practicing in King, Kitsap, and Snohomish counties, and parts of Pierce County. Avvo’s proprietary algorithms rate doctors on a 10-point scale, employing not only peer endorsements but factors such as experience, education, training, disciplinary history, fellowships, hospital privileges, and awards. Avvo’s dynamic ratings of the 12,583 doctors in the survey area are regularly refreshed based on new information gleaned from doctors as well as from certifying and licensing boards. The Swedish-affiliated physicians listed below are among the top 4 percent of practitioners in their fields as of May 2012.

For specialists not included in Avvo’s service - advanced registered nurse practitioners in nine specialties, acupuncturists, chiropractors, naturopaths, and optometrists - the rankings are based on nominations by doctors, nurses, physician’s assistants, and other health-care professionals.

Seattle Met’s survey asked professionals to name the colleagues they would choose to treat themselves and their loved ones. The resulting list of 586 top practitioners in their fields was published in the August 2012 issue and is posted online.
