Albert Einstein Jr., M.D., is the executive director of the Swedish Cancer Institute and a medical oncologist.
Dr. Einstein joined Swedish in 1999 to establish the Cancer Institute, which coordinates and integrates Swedish's cancer-related services across all Swedish campuses and affiliated institutions. These services include multidisciplinary clinical programs, surgical oncology, medical oncology and chemotherapy, radiation therapy, breast screening and diagnostic centers, psychosocial services, palliative and supportive care services, survivorship program, cancer screening, patient and professional education, clinical research and inpatient cancer care.
Dr. Einstein is nationally recognized for his work in cancer program development and chemotherapy for genitourinary cancers. He currently serves on the American College of Surgery Commission on Cancer as the American Hospital Association representative, the Leadership Council of the Puget Sound chapter of the American Cancer Society; and the Washington Comprehensive Cancer Control Partnership where he is the chairman of the steering committee. His is a past president of the Association of Community Cancer Centers, a past member of the National Cancer Legislation Advisory Committee and a past member of the national Medicare Ambulatory Payment Classification Advisory Panel.
A graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Einstein earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York. He completed his internship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his internal medicine residency at both Johns Hopkins and the University of Washington (U.W.). He was a clinical associate at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., and a hematology/medical oncology fellow at the U.W. He practiced medical oncology from 1976 to 1992 at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle, and was associate center director for clinical affairs at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and professor of medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa from 1993 to 1999.
Dr. Einstein has been the principal investigator in numerous research studies and has been widely published in various medical journals.regarding clinical research studies, oncology economics, and cancer program development. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and active in the American College of Physician Executives and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
