11th Annual PsychoOncology Symposium: Evidence-Based Improvisation

Friday, November 14, 2014
Swedish Education and Conference Center
Swedish Cherry Hill
500 17th Ave
Seattle, Washington

Caring for patients with life-threatening illness places considerable demands on patients, families and clinicians. A lethal diagnosis may provoke a wide range of responses and consequences for all concerned. Whatever your background and expertise, such situations call for skillful improvisation. This symposium will explore the gap between the disease and the patient who lives with it; between expert knowledge and expert technique; and between treatment algorithms and improvisational caring.

Faculty will discuss the limits of our knowledge as well as new perspectives on how to identify and address stage-specific and person-specific aspects of care.  Educating clinicians and enhancing their competence in a patient-centered, multidisciplinary care setting will help health professionals see past medical disease to better serve suffering patients who, like their caregivers, are simply doing the best they can.
